We believe that science is an essential part of a broad and ambitious curriculum. It encourages children to ask meaningful questions, investigate ideas and use evidence to explain their thinking.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that pupils build secure scientific knowledge over time. Important concepts are revisited and developed throughout their primary education, helping children to make connections and deepen their understanding. Working scientifically is woven throughout the curriculum, allowing pupils to develop their skills in observing, questioning, predicting, investigating, recording and evaluating. 

We have chosen to use Developing Experts to support the teaching of science because it combines a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum with practical investigations and meaningful links to the world beyond school. Through Developing Experts, children regularly encounter real scientists, engineers and other STEM professionals who explain how scientific knowledge is used within their work. By seeing people from a wide range of backgrounds applying science in real-life contexts, pupils learn that science is for everyone. These role models encourage children to be bold and courageous in their aspirations and help them imagine the possibilities that a future in science, technology, engineering or mathematics could offer.

We want every child to see themselves as a scientist: curious, knowledgeable and confident enough to investigate challenging questions. By the time pupils leave Walberton & Binsted, we want them to have secure scientific knowledge, strong enquiry skills and a lasting curiosity about the world. Above all, we want them to approach new discoveries with courage, wonder and a lifelong love of learning.
